Reformer Pilates

Reformer Pilates, developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, is a full-body workout performed on a specialized machine called the reformer. It combines resistance, controlled movement, and precise breathing to strengthen the core, improve flexibility, and enhance overall body alignment.

  • Yes, Pilates can be a helpful form of exercise if you are recovering from an injury, but it is crucial to proceed with caution. Pilates focuses on controlled movements, core strength, and alignment, which can aid in rehabilitation by promoting muscle balance and supporting proper movement patterns.

Before joining a class, consult with your healthcare provider to ensure Pilates is appropriate for your recovery, and choose a class that is tailored to your specific needs - such as a private or small group session that allows personalized attention.

  • You don't necessarily have to start with a beginner-level reformer Pilates class if you already have some experience with Pilates or a similar form of exercise. However, if you're new to the reformer machine or haven't done Pilates in a while, it might be a good idea to start with our Form & Foundations class.

The reformer machine has a lot of moving parts, and proper form is important to avoid injury and maximize the benefits of the exercise. A beginner class will help you understand how to use the machine safely and effectively while building a strong foundation.

  • The answer is yes! Pilates can be a great form of exercise during pregnancy, as it focuses on core strength, stability, and flexibility—all important during this time. Many Pilates exercises can be modified to accommodate your changing body and ensure both safety and comfort. It's especially beneficial for strengthening the pelvic floor, improving posture, and reducing pregnancy-related back pain.

However, consulting with your healthcare provider before starting or continuing Pilates during pregnancy is important.

Additionally, we highly suggest booking the Form & Foundations class as we can work with modifications catered to you!
